THE GRASS GARMENT
a journey from before-life to after-life
The consequences of human-centered design, like the fast fashion industry, are becoming more noticeable by the day. Approaches like more-than-human design aim to decenter the human, to minimize the negative impact on nonhumans and the environment and call for collaboration with nonhumans. The Grass Garment; a jacket made from grass with the traditional paper-making technique. It has a clear before-life, and is
designed to have an after-life. Using the more-than-human concept of biography, the methods of sample making, autobiographical design and hot composting, that were used to investigate what the potential of these methods are to listen to grass as a material, are reflected on.
